The Grand Paris Express is the largest urban infrastructure programme in Europe. An urban transformation on an unprecedented scale
The Grand Paris Express will double the length of the Paris metro network with four new lines, two line extensions and 68 new stations. Around three million passengers will use these lines every day, reshaping urban districts around each future hub. For the duration of construction, thousands of workers operate simultaneously across multiple confined underground sites.
Confined space safety, replicated across multiple lots
Each tunnel boring section and each station box is a confined space with its own evacuation logic. Delivering consistent confined space safety across so many concurrent sites is an organisational challenge as much as a technical one. The advantage of a standardised system is that supervision teams, emergency procedures and worker tracking behave identically from one lot to the next.
Expertise compounded, lot after lot
Since 2017, WISE Safety Centric has successively been deployed on Line 15 South lot T3C (8.1 km), Line 14 South lot GC02 (4.8 km), the EOLE GC-TUN section (6.4 km) and Line 18 lot 1 (12 km). The experience accumulated across these successive sites has produced a system that is immediately deployable, meets the strict requirements of project owners, and gives operational teams a genuine day-to-day safety and communication tool.
The headline numbers
To date, the system equips more than 40 km of tunnels and 15 stations, with more than 10,000 people covered by WISE systems on Grand Paris Express sites since 2017. That track record is, in itself, a reference for any metro construction safety procurement.
Real-time worker tracking at city scale
Across dense urban sites, real-time worker tracking and multi-entry counting let supervision know, at any moment, how many people are in each zone. In an evacuation, that single capability turns a chaotic headcount into a controlled, auditable process.
